Lowering costs and Increasing Employment

TAX THE RICH

In the Bronx, working families are constantly stretched thin as they struggle to pay rent that keeps rising, healthcare that is always in jeopardy, and food that grows more expensive each day. That is why George Alvarez firmly believes in taxing New York's wealthiest 1% in order to live in a more equitable New York. Taxing the rich will create a state budget that raises billions in revenue by making the wealthiest New Yorkers and corporations pay their fair share, so we can protect essential services and finally deliver an equitable way of life for all.

Expanding Economic Opportunity

George Alvarez introduced the "New York State Agency BIPOC Asset Management and Financial Institution Strategy Act" to increase investment opportunities for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) owned asset management firms, financial institutions, and professional service providers. This bill promotes economic equity and strengthens underserved communities by creating pathways for job growth and long-term financial empowerment across New York State.

“End the Toll Trap: Real Relief for Drivers Act”

“End the Toll Trap: Real Relief for Drivers Act” (A10716) is bipartisan, bi-state (New York and New Jersey) legislation that aims to protect commuters and motorists from predatory E-ZPass fines. Through this bill, George Alvarez aims to reduce excessive toll-related administrative fees, improve transparency in toll collection systems, and protect drivers from unfair penalties caused by billing errors and system failures. This legislation would also create a bi-state task force to identify ways to lower toll costs and improve payment processing efficiency.

Ensuring Fair Hiring Practices in a Digital Age

George Alvarez aims to hold discriminatory hiring tools accountable by establishing bill A3914. This bill will create transparency and accountability standards for automated hiring tools used by employers. This helps protect job seekers from discriminatory hiring practices by requiring regular bias audits and public reporting on the impact of artificial intelligence and machine-learning systems in employment decisions.

Boosting Access to Venture Capital

Many small businesses and startups founded by people from underrepresented communities tend to struggle finding early funding, which ultimately impacts their businesses’ longevity. George Alvarez responds to this issue in his establishment of bill A03708, which aids in establishing a venture capital tax credit to support emerging diverse-founded businesses across New York. This bill aims to increase early-stage investment opportunities and sustain the growing businesses rooted in New York communities.

Strengthening Consumer Protections

To prevent misleading sales practices and unfair pricing tactics, George Alvarez introduced A03881. This bill mandates retailers to honor advertised sale prices when products are temporarily unavailable. This act aims to strengthen consumer protections by ensuring that they can purchase products for the price that advertisers promised to them.

Supporting the New Kingsbridge Armory

The redevelopment of the historic Kingsbridge Armory is a project that was fully supported by George Alvarez. The redevelopment, backed by a $215 million investment from local and federal stakeholders, is projected to generate $2.6 billion in economic impact, create over 3,000 construction jobs, and provide 360 permanent jobs.
