George Alvarez is on a Mission to ensure

Quality Affordable Housing

Securing Millions in Funding for Public Housing

Since taking office, George Alvarez has worked every day to deliver meaningful and tangible results for the Bronx. He has secured $3 million in funding for housing upgrades at Keith Plaza, a 30-story residential building with over 300 apartments. He has also secured $50,000 to strengthen community resources at Kelly Towers Senior Center, a 17-story building with over 300 apartments.

Increasing Accessibility to Public Housing

George Alvarez introduced the “Housing is a Human Right Act”, establishing a centralized state website where residents can apply for and find affordable housing units. This act would not only increase the visibility of public housing for constituents but also appoint a volunteer task force to monitor developers' compliance with state mandates and manage a 5-year housing plan.

Fully Supporting the REST Act

George Alvarez is fully backing the Rent Emergency Stabilization for Tenants (REST) Act (A4877). The bill provides for an alternative method for localities other than New York City to opt in to rent regulation and expands the range of rental housing that can be covered. Essentially, The REST Act would expand rent stabilization across the entire state of New York. George Alvarez believes that this is a pivotal step toward modernizing NYS housing laws. He says, “every New Yorker and every person deserves to live with the dignity and stability that come with safe, affordable housing. I am proud to advocate for the REST Act because protecting the dignity and homes of all New York State residents must remain our priority.”

Tax Relief for Renters and Homeowners

George Alvarez has called for a tax relief in legislative bill A03736 which aims to provide tax relief for low-income renters burdened by high housing costs by establishing a tax credit. George Alvarez also introduced bill A07872 to protect senior homeowners from losing their homes by capping their property taxes on primary residences.
